Slave To The Quarter…

For those that are not familiar with this phase…its the time of the month again, its the dreadful 3rd month. For a public listed company, it translates to “Do whatever it takes to hit the revenue and bottomline targets!”. This is especially important as quarterly results reporting to the stock exchange determines your fate for the next 3 months and that of your future as well.

Its June now and you guessed it, I’m staring at Salesforce, Excels, making calls, pushing the sales, pressing for the projects to be signed off, for one objective, deliver the Q.

I’ve gotten rather used to these end Q activities but for those that have yet to be exposed to public companies, count your blessings and enjoy your private ownership as much as you can. Your “life” shortens to 3 months instead of the usual 12 months where you have all the time in the world to make up your shortfalls and numbers…For those who are are on the negotiations table with public companies, this is one big difference in mindset that you’ll need to adopt for life after M&A. =)
